The FPA is Australia’s leading professional community of financial planners. With over 10,000 members, we are unrivalled in reach and presence. Our members are committed to best practice financial planning and represent the changing face of the profession.

Thought Leadership

We play a pivotal role in defining the future of financial planning. In 2014, our landmark White Paper “The Future Profession” and FPA 10 Point Plan outlined our recommendations for the progress of our profession. Many of these recommendations are now at the forefront of public debate.

Government Advocacy

Strong ties with Government and regulators position us as a powerful and influential voice, speaking out on behalf of members. We maintain relationships with all key stakeholders and fight for fair outcomes that advance our profession, for the benefit of Australians. As legislation evolves, we provide members with guidance and practical resources and on how to adapt and prosper in our ever-changing world.

World Class Education

We are the only Australian body licensed to administer and deliver the CFP® designation, the international gold standard and highest certification available to financial planners worldwide. CFP professionals belong to a growing community of over 5,500 CFP professionals in Australia and 150,000 globally. Recognised in 24 countries, CFP certification opens up career opportunities across the globe.

Consumer Recognition

We invest heavily in educating consumers about the value of advice from an FPA member, as well as building consumer awareness about CFP® professionals. More consumers now recognise the CFP mark as a symbol of trust – it’s no wonder that CFP® professionals earn $40,000 pa more than other financial planners*. Under the FPA Professional Practice program, CFP® professionals also gain access to new client referrals from some of Australia’s top super funds.

Best Practice

FPA members benefit from an added layer of protection, through a robust professional framework that facilitates self-regulation and accountability for ‘de-risked’ advice. The FPA Code of Professional Practice has been praised and adopted by many countries around the world and places FPA members at the forefront of financial planning.

The statistics speak from themselves. During 2013/14, ASIC banned 14 financial planners. Of these, only one financial planner was an FPA member, none were CFP® professionals.
